Gorges du Verdon
Why climb in gorges du Verdon ?
The Verdon is Europe's grand canyon and you feel it from the moment you abseil down to the base of the route. The exposure is ever-present, the canyon breathtaking, and the atmosphere on every ascent is unlike anywhere else. Thousands of routes have been established in these limestone walls, from beginner-friendly climbs to serious multi-pitch classics. It is a destination that stays with climbers long after the ropes are packed away.
Some recommended climbs :
"Afin que nul ne meure" – (150m, 6a+) Good introduction to the aera. Abseil down and enjoy the journey trough this ocean of greylimestone.
"Pichenibule" – (530m, 7b+ > 6b+A0); A classic among classics, this Verdon monument offers a demanding and varied route that traverses the impressive Escalès wall — a fine achievement in any climber’s career.
"La ULA" – (280m, 6b, TRAD); A demanding historic route that remains a good test piece before tackling harder climbs. An incredible 200-metre crack to ascend while carefully managing your protection.
